Can’t believe this much time has passed so quickly, but I would like to formally announce that Dillon has successfully made his way through the apprentice program at my studio. I have seen this young man grow so much as an artist, and a businessman in such a short amount of time. Ah, yes! Another practice session completed and I felt very satisfied with this one. I had been learning and testing out different ink cartridges to achieve various effects, and last night’s practice was very gratifying. What an incredible journey! I've officially completed my first book cover, which is a special gift for my girlfriend @leannmariecotton. She's accomplished the remarkable feat of finishing her inaugural book in a series and entrusted me with the task of illustrating its cover. It was a true honor to receive this request, and I dedicated 1.5 months to bring it to fruition. The artwork is a blend of three distinct styles, akin to mixed media. The background comes to life with watercolors, the characters are skillfully drawn, and I utilized Adobe Illustrator to add those final, intricate details. The entire process was an enriching learning experience, marking the beginning of what I hope will be many more book covers in my future. Mark your calendars for September 21st, as that's when the book will be officially released. I read the book and let me tell you, you’re in for a treat 😊.

Recently, I’ve been spending an hour at the end of each day practicing tattooing in some capacity. Initially, I used ballpoint cartridges(@inluminoheartink) because I didn’t feel comfortable enough with handling a tattoo machine to execute proper ink application and setup. Happy Halloween everyone! Here’s a process video for my “Death Reaper” mask. This one took a while as I took a break from it and came back to it after some time. Most music inspires me to draw and at times gives me a certain image in mind based off the lyrics. This song motivated me to finish this guy and give it some life! My completed interpretation of the Death Reaper mask from Naruto is here! For those who don't know, here's a little bit about the significance of the mask in Naruto: "A mask resembling the Shinigami's face. It allows the wearer to summon and control the Shinigami by allowing it to possess the user. This enables the user to perform Dead Demon Consuming Seal: Release.” I thought the original mask representation lacked a bit compared to the character who wore it in the show, so I drew my version to “meet in the middle”. Enjoy!

Here we go! Prints are all updated and now added to the shop. Each print is on an 11” x 14” Museum Quality Giclée Paper compared to the previous 8.5”x11” photo paper. The quality is superb! WIP of the Reaper Death Mask from Naruto. This is one I’ve been working on for a bit now. Once I got to the point where I was laying down the lineart and colors, I soon realized that I had areas of missing detail that left the viewer guessing if the area was flat or not. So I went back and took my time adding some more details and voilà. I was a big fan of the the character design for the Death Reaper but I wasn't too crazy about the mask used to depict him. For my piece, I'm choosing to draw a cyberpunk themed mask and it's coming along really nicely. Back when the world was put on lockdown I took the available time to get more into the basics again. Since then I developed a whole warm up routine for myself that helps warm up the shoulder and focuses on using the shoulder joint rather than my wrist. The basis consisted of 100 circles and 100 ovals. At first it took forever, but over time it became a process that didn’t require much thought or time. Depending on the day and how I’m feeling I’ll do different drills for warm ups. Nowadays warm ups consist of 50 circles, 50 ovals, some 3D shapes to get some perspective in, and maybe combine everything with a 5 min portrait drawing. The overall point being to warm up my shoulder and brain for whatever drawing I plan to take on. Today ended short due to my cat startling me but once out of that zone I was ready to get to business. “Akkimesatsu" (Destroyer of Demons) Here’s my study of Giyu Tomioka from Demon Slayer. On the last slide you’ll see where the inspiration came from for this piece. The DS manga has a 4 chapter side story about water & fire. While reading it I came across a particular page and wanted to use it as a practice piece. I used it as a study on manga and hopefully recreating that same style but with color added. The lettering on the sword as well in the background reads “Akkimesatsu" (Destroyer of Demons). Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan. This was a really awesome piece to work on. Lots going on but I tried to only use 2 tones for skin color & shadows. ~Sun Wukong: The Monkey King~ My interpretation of the legendary mythical figure from the 16th-century Chinese novel “Journey to the West”. Rather than a fighter, my intention was to depict the Monkey King as a retired figure who took on the role of a guardian. The idea was inspired by the anime “The God of High School” where the main protagonist eventually reveals his true identity as the great God Sun Wukong. The result is a historical twist on a modern hero story. When I look at the Monkey King, I see the kind of laid back swag that comes from his years of fighting experience balanced with his loyal heart, which makes him a fierce protector. ~Almighty Push~ Pain from Naruto: Shippuden Here’s my fanart of the almighty “Pain”. Nagato, known primarily under the alias of Pain, is the figurehead leader of the Akatsuki. I wanted to work on perspective in my pieces, so Pain was the first character that came to mind with his strongest move. There were a few different techniques I used for shading this one. Each piece has a flavor of its own so I like taking the time to experiment around once I have my base colors established. With base colors I usually rely on references and I add in shadows/lights using grayscale. Last week I tried to do a canvas sale that was quite spontaneous and I didn’t really tell too many people about it. Hey everyone, Happy Spring! The days finally feel warmer but my allergies are definitely on the rise as well. It’s been nice to go on walks and feeling the sun beating on my back. ~Rōnin~ •Hey everyone! Hope everyone is having a relaxing Sunday so far. It just recently snowed here so the air is still chilly 🥶. But there’s no better way to spend a snow day than being covered in blankets till your eyes are the only thing exposed. Anyway…. Here’s my latest piece I’ve done called “Ronin”. A ronin was a samurai warrior in feudal Japan without a master or lord. In this piece I’ve depicted Nanashi from “Sword of the Stranger” and an Mecha-samurai I made up, similar to Kikuchiyo from “Samurai 7”.
